1) Modern teaching methods
Drumtrainer Berlin wants to help students to reach their goals faster by using modern and unconventional teaching methods. Apart from basic tuition this includes the combination of different methods such as taylormade practice plans, e-learning, regular studio and band performance trainings, computer courses as well as bass tuition, workshops in step dancing and regular visits to clubs and concerts in the run of the course.
2) Top drummers as top teachers
All the teachers at drumtrainer berlin are experienced professional drummers who are permanently involved in the international live- and studio businesses. They do not only know how to communicate concepts and techniques for the drum set, but also know about the psychological and economic needs in the business. Furthermore, they include drum tech innovations as well as new musical trends in their tuition. Pop music needs to be played and felt, it can’t be learned from books.
3) Finding one’s personality and individuality as a musician/career coaching
Many young drummers are good at reading music, play in many different musical styles and have a relatively large repertoire at their hands. Anyway, a lot of these drummers sound somewhat “replaceable”, as they’ve all gone through the same exercises without really learning to develop an individual style and to find out “who” they want to be as a musician. We offer regular workshops by a trained coach that should help young musicians to find their own personality, plan their career to get into and stay in the music business, as well as to find their potentials and resources, their goals and their own musical style.
4) Drums and electronics
The role of the drummer in pop music has changed a lot during the past 20 years. Today, it’s not enough any longer to “just” know how to play the drums. Nowadays, pop drummers are programmers and sound designers as well and have to be able to program and trigger beats and sounds in studio and live environments. They are required to be able to work with applications such as logic or ableton live and also with electronic drums, drum pads and controllers. That is why drums and electronics play an integral part in the curriculum at Drumtrainer Berlin.
5) Drums and Health
Many drummers have to deal with health problems in the run of their careers, such as slipped disks, tendovaginitis, shoulder-arm-syndrome but also burnout syndrome, depression and, sadly, very often hearing problems. Some of these problems result from bad posture and lack of ear protection, others from the pressure coming along with working as a freelance musician. Using the “Alexander-Technique” we try to counteract such problems early on. It is based on Frederick Mathias Alexander’s conviction, that the human being is an organism in which all mental, psychological and physical processes are inseparably linked to each other.
