Dear drummers, our new courses will start in october 2013.
To enrol for the “Professional-Training”, students will have to pass an admission exam. We will test different styles (e.g. rock, pop-ballad, swing) and reading skills (e.g. Ted Reed …). Students not resident in Berlin may also send songs and videos via e-mail.

BERLIN DRUM WEEK 2013

Top drummers from Los Angeles, London and Germany head to Berlin.

Berlin’s second ever drum week will take place from 31.07. 2013 to 04.08.2013.
Drumtrainer Berlin and Percussion Creativ e.V. have invited a selection of renowned drummers from Los Angeles, London and Germany. The drumming legend Ralph Humphrey (Don Ellis, Frank Zappa) from the Los Angeles Music Academy is scheduled to attend, alongside the London studio icon Ash Soan (Robbie Williams, Adele, Trevor Horn etc.) and the German drum guru Professor Udo Dahmen from the Baden-Württemberg pop academy. 
Mike Sturgis from London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance will also take part.

Stephan Emig and Drumtrainer Director Dirk Erchinger will lead the Berlin Drum Week.
Alongside the daily programme there will be workshops hosted by the star guests as well as groove and drum-set training.

The guests will participate in a podium discussion, not to mention the obligatory tour of Berlin.

Every day all those attending can join marching band practice, ahead of the closing event which will take place on Tempelhofer Feld.
Berlin Drum Week is supported by Percussion Creativ & Drumtrainer Berlin. The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, the Los Angeles Music Academy, YAMAHA, ROHEMA, SONOR and the Pop-Akademie Baden-Württemberg all support the event, and others are expected.

The Berlin Drum Week will take place in the Global Music Academy in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district.

Matthias Philipzen works as Lecturer for percussion at the “Musikhochschule Würzburg”.
For many years he has conducted workshops throughout Europe supplying students and professionals with the knowledge, techniques and handwork for a manifold of percussion instruments. He is a much sought after Percussionist and tours with several different projects.

Bernie Galane

Drumtrainer Berlin proudly presents Bernie Galane!

Bernard was born in Tulln close to Vienna in Austria, Europe. His parents wanted him and his brother to get involved with music as soon as possible, so he started visiting courses for musical education where he learned to play flute and piano at the age of 4. Some years later Bernard decided to study drums and fell deeply in love with his new instrument from very first beginning. His first teacher noticed his passion and talent and invited him to play in his band “The New Kids on the Drums”. This group, which played all over Europe, was an amazing chance for Bernard to gain professional experience at an extremely young age. At age 12, he already was signed to BMG Ariola, had 3 songs in the European charts , won Europe’s biggest band contest, the Pop-O-Drom, opened for major stars like Brian Adams, Extreme and Chesney Hawks, endorsed Diesel Fashion and also appeared on European TV playing major music shows as a child drummer. Music became very important and Bernard finally quit High School and went straight to one of the world’s best Music Universities, Vienna, when he was only 15 years old. The following years Bernie won many European Drum contests, recorded a lot and practiced as much as possible. He finally graduated from the conservatory of Vienna in 2001 after only 3 years with excellent success. In 2002 it was time to move. He sold his car, bought a one way ticket and flew to Los Angeles seeking new adventures and opportunities. Bernard played with some of the world’s best musicians, performed at numerous international drum festivals, appears on many recordings, soundtracks and also started to create helpful educational products such as the Ultimate Practice Series Play Along book, a Hand Technique Book and a complete Encyclopedia on Modern Drumset DVD Set. He is an extremely dedicated drummer and composer who performs any musical style. In early 2008 Bernard teamed up with some of the best instrument builders in the world and started a custom drum and cymbal company under his own name. Galane Custom Drums and Custom Cymbals are now available, 100% handmade.

Bernie will teach the students of Drumtrainer Berlin and will host a drum-clinic on Dec/13th 2012.
